Imo: “I Didn’t Apologize For Beating Of Journalist By Uzodinma’s Security” – Emelumba Refutes Okororcha’s Aide’s Claims

The Imo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Declan Emelumba have denied claims by Mr. FCC Jones Onwuasoanya, an aide of the former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, alleging that he had apologized to Punch Newspaper Correspondent, Mr. Chidiebube Okeoma, who was reportedly arrested and assaulted by security operatives at the Imo State Government House Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Chidiebube had broke the news of his arrest and assault on his Facebook page. In a video he made, while reacting to questions from media personality, Evang Darlington Flowrymz Ibekwe, Chidiebube Okeoma explained how he was stopped from carrying out his constitutional duties as a journalist, and beaten to pulp by the security operatives, while Senator Hope Uzodinma’s Chief Security Officer, forced him to unlock his phone at gunpoint, and deleted all the videos he had recorded, of the protest by sweepers, who were being owed over six months of their salaries, by the Hope Uzodinma administration.

Mr. FCC Jones Onwuasoanya, probably in a bid to make peace between Okeoma, and the Imo State government, in a post on his Facebook page, claimed that Uzodinma’s Information Commissioner, Declan Emelumba, had apologized to Chidiebube Okeoma for the beating he received at the hands of Uzodinma’s security operatives.

Emelumba, while addressing the matter, refuted the claims of apologizing to Chidiebube Okeoma, insisting that the journalist was not beaten by anybody.

He further tried to paint Okeoma as an agent of the opposition in the state, alleging that Chidiebube Okeoma had come with sinister motives, and was recording sensitive areas in the Government House when he was arrested.

Okeoma had in his video, dismissed Emelumba’s claim as he announced he would be seeking legal redress.
