2023 Presidency: Tinubu Should Have Presented an Igbo man as VP in 2019

As the 2023 General Elections draws closer, former Lagos State Senator and govenror, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, have come forward to declare his interest to become the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is as the entire South, are clamouring that the Presidency should come to them, with the South East shouting the loudest, having not occupied the number one or number two positions in the country, since the return to democracy in 1999.

Personally, I think for fairness and sense of unity, the South East deserves to be given a chance to pilot the affairs of the nation, as others have done.

The last time an Igbo man became the leader of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was through General Aguiyi Ironsi, whose murder would spark of the Nigeria/Biafra Civil War.

Over 40 years after, the wounds are yet to be healed, as the Igbos have not really been given the chance to become true Nigerians, even though they have contributed more to the unity and growth of this nation than any other tribe.

I fault Tinubu’s agitation to succeed Buhari. Aside from the fact that clearly, he lacks the know-how, to pilot the affairs of the nation properly, and his age which may mean that Nigeria would start taking care of another sick president, his decision to plant Prof Yemi Osinbajo as Buhari’s Vice President, should be seen as enough settlement for him and even the Yoruba nation.

I can tolerate and even accept Osinbajo deciding to run for Presidency. I will even support it.

But Tinubu or any other Yoruba man nursing the idea should bury it and give the South East a chance.

If Tinubu had given Buhari a Vice President from the South East, he would have had more bargaining chips today, to ask for presidency.

But he denied the South East the VP position, and now wants to deny them the Presidential seat and that is total unfair.

It goes to show the kind of clannish president he would make, as a man who have never hidden his hatred for Ndi Igbo.

Tinubu cannot eat his cake and have it. Ndi Igbo have very capable hands to manage the affairs of this country and reclaim our lost glories, than a man who things PVC expires and wants 50 million youth pushed into the Army.
