Will Nnamdi Kanu’s Arrest Mark The End Of The Biafra, Oduduwa Struggle?

by Ebere Njoku

News of the arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, by the Nigerian government, in collaboration with the Interpol.

Nnamdi Kanu had been on the run from the Nigerian government for some years, since after he disappeared from his home in Abia State, following a military invasion.

Kanu who was granted bail by a Nigerian court, was declared wanted ever since, for violating his bail conditions, and jumping bail.

Within the period the IPOB leader have been on the run from Nigerian authorities, he was able to form the militant arm of his organisation, the Eastern Security Network ESN.

His campaign for the independence of the defunct Republic of Biafra from Nigeria, had also led to a similar agitation from the South West, led by Sunday Igboho, who is also demanding for an independent Republic of Oduduwa.

The Biafran struggle, which was initially championed by Mazi Ralph Uwazuruike, took a more pronounced and international turn, with the emergence of Nnamdi Kanu.

His arrest by the Nigerian government in 2015 had helped boost his profile, and given him the platform that propelled him to international recognition and acceptance.

However, with his re- arrest on Sunday, the 27th day of June 2021, may put brakes on the agitation, both for an independent Republic of Biafra, but also take away the steam from Sunday Igboho’ s agitation for a Republic of Oduduwa.

Recall that several clerics have predicted of Nnamdi Kanu’ s demise this year, 2021.

A pastor Olatobiliba Peters, while speaking about his revelation over the late televangelist, Apostle TB Joshua, had also stated that God told him that Nnamdi Kanu would die before the end of the year.

Another cleric, Obinna Akukwe also revealed plans to eliminate Nnamdi Kanu, so also did Prophet Ekene Bob- Ekechukwu.

A few days after their revelations, 75 Northern groups placed a bounty on Nnamdi Kanu’ s head, calling for his arrest.

The bounty may have taken effect, following the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu by foreign partners, and his eventual repatriation to Nigeria, where he is facing treason charges.

In Nigeria, treason goes with a death sentence, and the predictions about Nnamdi Kanu may be coming to fulfilment.

Whether his arrest, and if the predictions are to be taken seriously, his death, would bring an end to the Biafra and even Oduduwa Republic struggles, or whether they would serve as the fuel of martyrdom, that can force the breakup faster than before, is now a matter only the future can tell.

Recalling the words of Apostle Saviour Kal El, Nnamdi Kanu is a Moses to his people, but in the Bible, Moses did not enter the Promised Land. Would this be the case for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu?

Interestingly, Kal El also said Nigeria would not break up, and Nnamdi Kanu would be amongst those to chart a new path for the new Nigeria. Whether he will chart it alive remains another matter.
