Unknown Gunmen, Military, Shoot At Okorocha’s House During Gun Duel

The residence of former governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha took fire on the evening of Thursday, the 3rd day of June, 2021, when unknown gunmen, and the Nigeria military engaged each other in a gun duel in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The state was once again at high alert, following another invasion on the Orji axis of the capital, by the unknown gunmen.

It was an encounter that left several people dead, including a police woman.

There have not yet been any confirmation, whether any of the gunmen was killed during the gun battle.

Imo has been in the news in recent times, since the attack on the Federal Correctional Facility in Owerri, which saw over 1800 inmates escaping.

There have since then, been coordinated attacks across the state, mainly targeted at security facilities, and Government owned buildings, such as the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

The former governor, whose aides were detained by the Imo State Police Command, had raised alarm, over alleged plot to rope him into the security situation in the state.

Okorocha had severally lambasted the Hope Uzodinma administration’s approach to the situation in the state, offering to be consulted, to help the government arrest the situation.

His aides were released from police custody, through the court, after spending several weeks in detention. Another aide of the former governor, have also raised alarm of plans to link him to the proscribed group, the Nnamdi Kanu led Indigenous Peoples of Biafra IPOB, in a bid to get him arrested, for being very vocal against the Hope Uzodinma administration.

In a video clip made available to viewers on the handle of one of Okorocha’s media handlers, Evang Darlington Flowrymz Ibekwe, the points of entry of the bullets could be seen, as they stuck the building.

Okorocha was not in the state during the shooting, and has yet to release a statement to that effect.
