They are planning to arrest me for speaking against Hope Uzodinma, Owerri based lawyer cry out

An Owerri based legal practitioner, and public affairs analyst, Ekene Bob-Ekechukwu Esq have raised alarm over plot to get him arrested, over his views against the Hope Uzodinma administration.

Bob-Ekechukwu made this known on a post on his Facebook page, where he revealed that he had credible information, of a plot to get him arrested.

A radio presenter, and serial critic of the Hope Uzodinma administration, Mr. Theodore Chinonso Uba, popular known as Nonsonkwa, had raised similar alarm this week, of a plot to arrest him for his views.

Evang Darlington Ibekwe, a media consultant to former govenror, and Senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, had also raised alarm some time ago, in a viral video, of plot to arrest him.

He was later arrested and charged to a magistrate court, but the government seems to lack evidence to proceed further in the case against him.

The Hope Uzodinma had been synonymous with the arrest of critics, with the former New Media Director of the Imo State Chapter, of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, being the first to be arrested by Uzodinma.

Ekene Bob-Ekechukwu’s post reads as follows;

This is to inform the reading public that reliable information at my disposal shows that the security agencies are monitoring me. According to my source, they have planned to conjure a reason to incacerate me, because of the articles I write, which they consider to be unfavourable to the Imo State government. This may not be unconnected to the alarm raised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of a plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to silence the opposition.

It must be noted that as a Nigerian, I have the constitutional right to free speech, and it is against democratic norms for the government to seek to suppress opposing views. Freedom of expression and dissenting opinions is the beauty of democracy. Also it should be noted here that everyone must not be in, and or support the ruling party. Any leader who is not ready to entertain opposition in a democracy, is not prepared to lead.

In as much as most of our leaders have by their intolerance to the opposition eroded the democratic space, fact remains that good governance thrives with only true democracy. It is only an under-performing leader, that will feel threatened by credible and robust opposition. The ruling party in Imo State, is therefore advised to eschew desperate politics laced with bitterness. They should rather silence the opposition with the dividends of democracy, coupled with good governance, and not the other way round.

However, they ruling party should also bear in mind that actions usually beget reactions. The escalated rate of insecurity in the country, and the State in particular, without doubt, is a reaction of the people to perennial oppressive leadership. The alleged plot by the ruling party, to silence the opposition through unconventional and clandestine means, may yield unfavourable results, and further aggravate the already complicated insecurity in the State.
