Feminist forum wants lawmaker to sign undertaking for assaulting female colleague

Nigerian Feminist Forum has asked the lawmaker representing Ahiazu Mbaise state constituency at the Imo state house of Assembly, Samuel Otuibe to apologize to his colleague, Uju Onwudiwe( Njaba) for allegedly assaulting her on Monday night at a meeting of lawmakers elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The Director of Programmes of NFF, Chinwendu Anozie, who addressed a press conference in Owerri, also asked Otuibe to sign an undertaking that going forward he won’t assault the female lawmaker.

The group also demanded that the allegedly assaulted female lawmaker take time off work to enable her “take care of her mental health.”

The group also demanded for a statement by the House of Assembly, assuring safety of women representatives at the state house of Assembly.

Chinwendu said ” our attention yet again has been drawn to an uncultured and ill-mannered behavior display by Hon Samuel Otuibe, House member, Ahiazu Mbaise constituency in Imo state by allegedly throwing a wine bottle and a wine glass at a female colleague, Hon Uju Onwudiwe who only cautioned him to to exhibit maturity befitting an honourable member of the legislature, as he was intimidating another female colleague, Hon Ngozi Obiefule, representing Isu state constituency, who was said to have questioned the reason Hon Samuel Otuibe would peddle falsehood against her in a bid to malign and tarnish her hard earned image.

“We demand apology a written apology by Hon Samuel Otuibe published in a daily to Hon Uju Onwudiwe for publicly violating and attempting to put her in harm’s way.

” A signed undertaken that no harm shall befall Hon Uju, as this act of violence poses a risk for her life.A time off from work for Hon Uju Onwudiwe, to take care of her mental health, as this act of violence may have psychologically thrown her off balance.

” A statement by the House of Assembly, assuring safety of women representatives in the house of Assembly. “

When contacted, Otuibe told our correspondent that he would not apology because he did not apology her female colleague.
