Ambrose Nwaogwugwu: Samdaddy may deal a heavy blow to Ihedioha’s political image

Samuel Anyanwu and Emeka Ihedioha

If Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Samdaddy, bows to pressure and intervenes on the Ambrose Nwaogwugwu affair, he may strike yet another damaging blow to the now bruised political image of sacked governor, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, the New Media Director of the Imo State Chapter of the PDP, have been in DSS custody for over four weeks and may still remain there for another two weeks, following the denial of bail and subsequent adjournment of the case, by the magistrate court.

Nwaogwugwu is being charged with allegations, that are bordering on cyber terrorism against the Imo State government. Nwaogwugwu was appointed through the influence of Ihedioha, following the unceremonious sack of the previous New Media Directors, Mr Lancelot Obiaku and Mr Nze Duru Kizito, both men believed to be loyal to Ihedioha’s political rival, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

Since his arrest, Ihedioha has yet to make any formal statement condemning the action, neither have he made any visible move towards solidarity with Nwaogwugwu.

Even Party officials and Ihedioha’s former appointees, seem to be losing interest in the matter as the number of people appearing in court to show solidarity with Nwaogwugwu have gradually declined. The fiery Uche Onyeagocha, the sacked Secretary to Ihedioha’s brief administration, have surprisingly been very quiet over the matter. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu seems to be fighting on his own, as his sponsors seem only interested in turning him into a sacrificial lamb, than securing his freedom.

There have been calls to party leaders, to reach out to the Hope Uzodinma administration and reach an out of court settlement. One of such calls has been to Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Samdaddy, as Senator Samuel Anyanwu is popularly called, was the former senator that represented Owerri Senatorial zone from 2015 to 2019. He was also a PDP governorship aspirant, in the 2019 PDP governorship primaries where many party members till date, believe he won the primaries instead of Ihedioha, who was declared winner.

There have been moves by Ihedioha to get Samdaddy kicked out of the party, in what many believe to be Ihedioha’s move to consolidate the party around him before 2024. Many believe that Samdaddy is the only man that can defeat Ihedioha and if possible, lead PDP to victory in 2024. The national leadership of the PDP seems to share that same view, as they have debunked the expulsion attempts against Samdaddy, and even gave him a national assignment as a show of support for him.

Samdaddy is also believed to be one person who can talk to Gov Hope Uzodinma, and get him to change his mind concerning the continued incarceration of Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

Should Samdaddy bow to pressure and get involved in the matter, and subsequently get the state to drop charges against Nwaogwugwu, it would be a heavy slap to Ihedioha’s political image in the state.

Samdaddy, who is presently in Edo State on national assignment, is yet to react to the call for him to get involved. Gov Hope Uzodinma is also in Edo leading the APC team for the party primaries and its hoped that they may talk to each other about Nwaogwugwu, if they paths should cross during their stay in Edo State.
