With the recent body language of the former Secretary to the Imo State government, during the brief Ihedioha era, Hon Uche Onyeagocha, it seems that there is probably no truth in the widely rumoured agreement between Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu SamDaddy.
According to rumour that had evaded the Imo political space, the two political heavyweights were said to have reached a truce, whereby Ihedioha once again takes the party to the Governorship election in 2023, while Anyanwu returns to the Senate.
The rumour broke when some political analysts and spectators in the state, rubbished the supposed reconciliation between Ihedioha and Anyanwu, hinting that Anyanwu may likely be the PDP Governorship candidate come 2023.
Ihedioha was alleged to be on his way to the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, along with former governor Rochas Okorocha and his political family.
Uche Nwosu was alleged to be picked to be Ihedioha’s running mate and their close relationship in recent times, have further strengthened the rumours.
The Imo State PDP had refuted the detection claims, just as Anyanwu raised alarm of some elements within the party, who were trying to blackmail him.
Analysts have faulted the statement from the Imo State PDP, which practically presented Ihedioha as their candidate even though primaries have yet to be held, and were of the view that with the obvious strained relationship between Anyanwu who has the backing of the National body of the party, along with some powerful national players, and Ihedioha, there may yet be truth in the rumoured defection.
“With Ihedioha’s boys jousting for the Senate seat,” one analyst stated. “It’s obvious there was never any agreement to allow SamDaddy go to the Senate, while Ihedioha goes for the Governorship seat.
“What happened in 2019 will most likely repeat itself. SamDaddy had wanted to go to the Senate, but when Ihedioha’s boy Onyewuchi was presented for the Senate seat, SamDaddy decided to dig it out with Ihedioha and even nearly won.
“A lot of his supporters believe he did. Well the same Supreme Court that gave a favourable judgement to Ihedioha in his case with Anyanwu, will still give another ruling in favour of Uzodinma.
“Let’s watch and see how they go about it, but even though SamDaddy haven’t said anything, a lot of people are already clamouring for him to declare for the Governorship seat again.
“Many in the PDP are of the view that if it was SamDaddy, there was no way he would have ever let something within his grip slip away.
“Mind you, Buni is a governor and still APC National Chairman. Being Chief Scribe of the PDP may not stop Anyanwu from jumping into the ring. It may even be the edge he needs to finally get the ticket and head to the election.”
