Okigwe Senate: PDP May Take Away Ibezim’s Mandate at the Tribunal

0

The argument is no longer over who the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the Okigwe Senate By-election was.

The Supreme Court had laid that matter to rest, when it declared Mr. Frank Ibezim the winner of the primaries, and in a effect, buried Senator Ifeanyi Araraume’s ambition to return to the Senate chambers he sat in from 1999 to 2007.

The major argument facing the APC candidate at the tribunal, centres on what happened on the day before the Okigwe Senate By-election.

It could be recalled that on that Friday, December 4th 2020, Mr. Frank Ibezim had approached the Appeal Court, and reversed an early High Court ruling, which had been in Senator Ifeanyi Araraume’s favour.

But before he could enjoy his appeal court victory, Araraume obtained another High Court ruling, barring Ibezim from contesting the election.

With both rulings handed down by a High Court, and the Appeal Court, the APC was left without a candidate as the election took place the next day December 5th 2020.

The Nigerian Constitution does not allow for political parties to go into elections without candidates, and that way be the argument that could see Ibezim relinquishing the mandate, to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Chief Emmanuel Okweulonu, who according to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, polled second.

The arguments of whether the APC won the election may also come as the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, tries to argument it’s own case for their candidate.

Araraume have been silent since after the ruling, but his behind the scene influence against Ibezim may be expected.
