No Imo governor, have faced the kind of rejection from the people, Senator Hope Uzodinma has been facing with Imo people, right from the inception of his administration.
The reason isn’t rocket science. The controversial ruling of the Supreme Court, that installed Hope Uzodinma, removing Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, who had earlier been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, as the winner of 2019 General Elections, has yet to be forgotten, or forgiven by Imo people, who feel exploited by the ruling.
Even at his inauguration, which took place at night, it took former governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, along with Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, both who maintained a large fan base in the state, to mobilise people to the venue of the inauguration, as Imo people shunned it, unlike when Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha was sworn in as Imo governor.
Uzodinma has attempted to continue from where Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha stopped, especially in the area of infrastructural development, but have failed to maintain Ihedioha’s achievements in the area of human development, salaries and pensions.
Unfortunately for Uzodinma, his admittance to inviting the Nigeria military, to lay siege on Orlu, a few months ago, following a confrontation with members of the Eastern Security Network ESN, and the more recent military invasion in the state, which seemed to have started with the killing of ESN commander Ikonso, have not helped endear Uzodinma to the people.
On the contrary, Imo people are more than ever before, determined to see Hope Uzodinma out of office.
With all the conspiracy theories surrounding the Philip Umeadi suit, which the Supreme Court have refused to hear, Imo people now seem to focus their attention to 2023, when they will have another chance, to decide who leads them.
Political observers wonder if Uzodinma can be able to change the narrative before 2023. Information reaching Verbatim News, has it that Uzodinma has commissioned the formation of a new media unit, to help manage his rather battered image, but media consultant, Evang Darlington Flowrymz Ibekwe, a popular media consultant and associate to former governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and his son inlaw, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, doubts the viability of such move, as he is doubtful, that Uzodinma’s media handlers, would be able to revive his image with the people.
Many political watchers in the state, are doubtful, if Uzodinma would be able to win a second term, if he even manages to remains in office till 2023.
His former political allies, now foes, Senators Rochas Okorocha and Ifeanyi Araraume, may join forces with any of the strong opposition parties, and their flagbearers, to ensure 2023 would not be an easy ride for Uzodinma.
